Miracle twins for new Bay mother (43)

Overjoyed Richards Bay resident Pinky Dunn (43) gave birth to her identical twins last week

OVERJOYED Richards Bay resident Pinky Dunn (43) says the birth last week of her identical twin newborns is ‘a miracle from God’.

Having been diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and enduring years of hormonal imbalances and irregular menstrual cycles, the excited new mother delivered the two boys at the Lower Umfolozi War Memorial Hospital in Empangeni, without any complications.

The duo, Christiano and Christian were full term babies and weighed in at a healthy 4,2kg and 3,8kg respectively.

According to Pinky, the hospital staff were impressed with the size and weight of babies, especially because twins usually tend to be smaller.

‘These children are my gifts, I have never taken any fertility treatment because I knew I had this condition.

‘I would not have a menstrual cycle for up to three years then it would just return out of the blue,’.

Surprise

When Pinky began feeling ill towards the middle of last year, she paid a visit to her  doctor and was diagnosed with high blood pressure and referred to the  hospital for further treatment.

At the hospital, they found her blood pressure was normal but after a few more tests, they discovered she was expecting.

At that time she was already 18 weeks pregnant.

‘I worked throughout my pregnancy, my feet were swollen from the beginning but I was healthy.

‘They were big babies and I could feel it, especially on the last few weeks.

‘I went on leave on the 24 December and the Zululand heat did not help my last few weeks leading up to the delivery.”I was happy that the procedure went well and we were ready to leave the hospital after a few days.

‘Despite my age, my pregnancy went very well; I did not experience any problems or complications.

‘I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes but I managed to control it with my diet, so the babies were healthy and fine.

‘All I can say is that these are my miracle children; even when the doctor told me I was pregnant, I just laughed and told him that was impossible.

‘I have a daughter, Mandy who was given to me when she was three months old, today she is seven and in Grade 2.

‘Even though she is not my biological child, we share a special bond. She even has my features and I have the pleasure of hearing her call me mum.

‘She is so excited with the arrival of her brothers.’
