Richards Bay High’s top five

Top performers Ingrid Otto, Hein Cooke, Adriaan Coetzer, Alicia Terblanche and Fanele Gumede are now looking forward to embarking on their various journeys in the tertiary world.

AN impressive total of five matriculants at Hoërskool Richardsbaai claimed six distinctions, and most missed a seventh by a mere 1 or 2%.

Top performers Ingrid Otto, Hein Cooke, Adriaan Coetzer, Alicia Terblanche and Fanele Gumede are now looking forward to embarking on their various journeys in the tertiary world.

Ingrid, who scored As in Afrikaans, English, Maths, Life Orientation, Accounting and Life Sciences, will study BCom accounting at North-West University in Potchefstroom.

‘Maths and accounting are my strongest points and I enjoyed both subjects so I plan on becoming a chartered accountant.

‘I thank God and my parents for all their support throughout the exams.’

Hein, with As in English, maths, life orientation, engineering graphics, life sciences and physical sciences, is off to Pretoria to study chemical engineering at Tuks University.

‘My aptitude tests indicated that my technical abilities are best, which prompted me to study chemical engineering.

‘Thanks to my mom and dad – my whole family was very supportive.’

Adriaan, who achieved As in Afrikaans, English, maths, life orientation, engineering graphics and geography, will study industrial engineering, also at Tuks.

‘The course covers everything I am interested in and want to do.

‘I love solving different problems and finding ways to make improvements.

‘I thank God and my parents for all their support and wisdom, as well as my matric friends who made school days ‘lighter’.’

Alicia, who aced Afrikaans, English, maths, life orientation, geography and visual arts, is to study medical technology at Ampath Laboratories in Pretoria.

‘Thanks to our teachers who always motivated us to perform at the best of our abilities and all the extra classes they were willing to give.

‘I also thank my parents for their unwavering support.’

Fanele, who got As in Afrikaans, life orientation, accounting, business studies, economics and life sciences, will study BCom accounting at the University of Johannesburg.

‘I have always been interested in commerce and accounting and feel BCom accounting will be the best challenge for me.

‘I thank my parents, sisters and tutors for all their support.’

Principal Herman Muller congratulated them.

‘By the grace of God, a committed team effort by all teachers and dedicated students ensured that we achieved the 100% matric pass rate that we all strive for.
