An electrifying comedy festival

Fans brought in their camp chairs and cooler boxes to enjoy SA’s top line-up of comedians

WHEN homegrown comedian Sifiso Nene announced he was bringing the first comedy picnic in Zululand, we laughed in surprise.

But in support of our local born comic, we soon became excited to witness this history in the making.

For many, the uMhlathuze Comedy Festival was meant to be just another ordinary comedy show…but boy, were we surprised.

Held at the Richards Bay Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon, the scenario was altogether different.

Fans brought in their camp chairs and cooler boxes to enjoy SA’s top line-up of comedians in an outdoor setting – the first in KZN.

Divided into three segments, the show started with Pelepele – a comedian from Johannesburg who had fans in stitches as an MC of the first session.

This was followed by killer performances by SATMA winners Tsoro, Simphiwe Shembe and Amawele aseChesterville.

The second session was even more entertaining, featuring Isibaya actress Celeste Ntuli, Sansey, Ongane Ngane and Shampoonizer.

To finish it all, Trending SA presenter Nina Hastie, comic blogger Thenjiwe, Fly Motion of Gagasi FM and Mkhumba Hlophe of the SABC 1 sitcom Thandeka’s Diary closed the show will a bang – leaving fans silently stunned, then vocally thrilled.
