Hume on triple title expedition

Calvin will compete in his second Roof Of Africa race at the end of November

ENDURO rider Calvin Hume put a spoke in his competitors’ wheels when finishing third and taking the overall title at the sixth round of the National Enduro Championships in Heidelberg.

‘Calvin already had five first place finishes in the season and enough points in the bag to take the championship title in the high school class,’ said dad Brett Hume.

‘Therefore he did not risk racing at one hundred percent and enjoyed his last ride in this year’s championship.’
Riders competed on a 125 kilometre track that tested their skills.

‘The track was set out in three stages, namely a mixed track section, endurance section and extreme stage section,’ said Brett.

‘The endurance section took riders out on jeep type tracks and single tracks in the plantations.

‘But the test came in stage three, the extreme stage, which took riders up a steep rocky mountain path and then dropped down a section with rock ledges.’

Hume utilised his traction control while choking the throttle to finish strongly.

‘Calvin has one more race left for the year which is a WFO enduro race in the Pietermaritzburg area.

‘If he wins this race he will take the title for the KZN Championship in the high school class, which will end his season off with three titles.’

Calvin will compete in his second Roof Of Africa race at the end of November.

Last year he finished 16th in the silver class and was the youngest rider to finish.

He will be racing for the KTM Durban team and aims at finishing at the top with the big guns.
