Shaka theatre production ready to roll

Local talent to take centre stage during the Death of the Emperor Shaka theatre play in Empangeni next month

Experienced actors will lead the cast in the Death of the Emperor Shaka theatre production at the Empangeni Civic Centre on Friday, 4 November.

The local performers who have been hungry for an acting platform are expected to be in top form as they bring to life the story of the late Zulu ruler King Shaka.

Despite lack of support from various structures, these talented youngsters say this first production will change people’s perspective on how the look at the local acting industry.

Nothando Mabaso (31) – Narrator
A Unizulu graduate who holds a BA Drama degree will act as the narrator.

This talented young woman from Mabhensa in KwaBiyela has been part of the international play Faces which recently toured Zimbabwe, the Spoken Word and 5 Decades in an Hour.

Nonjabulo Zikhali (25) – Nandi
A Unizulu graduate with a BA degree in Drama Psychology.

She has been part of the Spoken Word, The Embrace, Vuka Afrika and was this year shortlisted for the famous Sarafina play.

Zime Mpanza (29) – Mkabayi kaJama
The founder of Siwela Youth Project which assists needy children in the area.

A DramAid life skills facilitator from KwaDlangezwa, Mpanza has featured in many theatre productions, including Mkabayi at the Grahamstown Arts Festival.

She has also been part of Three Roots and many industrial theatre productions.

Patrick Thabiso Qwabe – Dingaan
An experienced actor, former TV presenter, motivational speaker and MC.

This talented actor from Mtunzini is known for his roles in Isiko LakwaZulu, eSikhaleni Arts and Culture initiative, DramAid, Buyisokwakithi and for his vibrant voice as part of the Zululand Gospel Choir.
