Workshops upskill unemployed graduates

'An investment in human skills development is the cornerstone of sustained socio-economic development'

OVER the next five weeks, 18 unemployed graduates will participate in a capacity building workshop that will assist them in entering the working world.

The programme, hosted by the uThungulu Community Foundation, sets out to provide essential life skills and the knowledge to secure employment or register with a community-based organisation.

‘A four-person training team is made up of individuals with vast and diverse experiences from different industries and work settings,’ said foundation CEO Chris Mkhize.

‘Presentations at the workshops will be interactive and learners will be presented with case studies to equip them with problem-solving and decision-making skills.

‘Each student at the workshop has already been supplied with four instruction books and other written handouts.

‘This reading material is designed to encourage participants to read and attend the workshop with a better understanding of the competitive working world.

‘Above all, with this training, participants will be expected to share their experiences with fellow participants, facilitators and their community at large.

‘The supplied reading material is rich in information, such as skills in communication, working with management, entrepreneurship, the recognition and acquisition of hard and soft skills and the preparing of a CV or preparing for an interview.’

Mkhize thanked all the companies that contributed to the programme.

‘This would certainly not have happened without the generous support from some local corporate organisations.

‘As a Foundation, we believe that an investment in human skills development is the cornerstone of sustained socio-economic development.

‘Corporate contribution will no doubt change the lives of the participants in this our third programme of this nature.’
The programmes were initiated by the foundation last year.
