Cop suicide probed

It is believed he shot himself with his service pistol

POLICE have opened an inquest docket following the apparent suicide of a 35-year-old police officer at Ekombe near Nkandla on Thursday.

According to SAPS spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane, the man was taken to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries after sustaining a single gunshot wound, allegedly self-inflicted to his person.

It is believed he shot himself with his service pistol inside the Ekombe police station in the presence of his wife, who was physically unharmed.
