Brackenham CPF steps up crime fight

Daytime bicycle patrols a welcome addition

THE recently formed Brackenham Community Police Forum (BCPF) is calling on all residents to unite in preventing and reporting crime.
The executive members have already formed alliances and introduced initiatives aimed at ridding Brackenham of its ‘crime hot spot’ reputation.
‘We have received the full support of many individuals such as city manager of Public Safety and Security Zolile Poswa, director of Parks, Sport and Recreation Ernst van Biljon, management of SAPS, our ward councillor as well as the chairman of the main Richards Bay CPF structure Robert Mbuyazi’ said BCPF chairperson, Rheka Kanaye.
‘Cllr Leslie Joseph has already taken up the greenbelt issue and extra lighting as a priority. A site meeting has already been held and contractors will soon begin their work in clearing greenbelt areas.
‘The BCPF is working hard in securing the installation of CCTV cameras at entrance and exit points, ensuring all vehicles and pedestrians are monitored, which will greatly assist with identifying and apprehending suspects.

‘Both entrance and exit points will also get more speed humps to slow down getaway vehicles,’ said Kanaye.

‘We have revived the bicycle patrol project and will have eight patrollers on the streets of Brackenham during the day. Mainly youth, they will be employed from Brackenham.’
