Mondi to nurture forestry contractors

LOCAL entrepreneurs hoping to grow their business in the forestry industry can apply to participate in a contractor development programme by Mondi Zimele – a small business development arm of the paper group.

The seven-month Mondi Forestry Partners Programme, offered at no cost, aims to support high potential entrepreneurs to develop their forestry contracting businesses or assist those considering career opportunities in the sector.

‘This industry is a major contributor to the SA economy.

High performance contractors in harvesting, transport, silviculture and support services are key contributors to the sector,’ said Mondi Zimele.

Minimum requirements to apply include a post matric qualification in business management or forestry operations; at least three years of relevant work or business management experience; being computer literate with regular access to a computer and being able to attend lectures on alternate Saturdays between 9am and 3pm in Richards Bay.

The programme will cover areas such as the forestry contracting environment; keys to establishing and running a successful contracting business; how to structure a business to meet contractual requirements; managing finances; how to cost and price contracts and setting up governance structures to meet compliance requirements.
