Sweet success for cancer drive

The community-driven project has spread awareness at 57 malls nationwide

THE National Cupcakes 4 Kids with Cancer event, held at the Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Centre on Saturday, raised a whopping R25 800 to help the little ones fight their battle.

It was the fourth year the event was held in Richards Bay to secure funding for treatment and accommodation near hospitals.

The community-driven project has spread awareness at 57 malls nationwide during September, branded Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and collected R1.76-million.

‘We can all make a difference, one cupcake at a time,’ said coordinator for Richards Bay, Alice Lohrmann.

‘I would like to thank every person who got involved and the public for donating cupcakes for us to sell.

‘If it was not for them, we would not have been able to support this worthy cause.’
