Fighters off to find their Destiny

FIGHTERS from the Empangeni Paul Caves Mixed and Sports Martial Arts Club will jet off to Cape Town to take part in the Destiny 2016 championships.

Destiny is the annual NMA/ISKA national championships to be held on Saturday.

Some 1 100 competitors from around the country make up the average attendance, with multiple disciplines on display.

There are divisions for; points and continuous fighting; freestyle; weapons forms; traditional kata and kumite; self-defence; breaking for juniors and seniors; high kick challenge; extreme kicking; submission GI and NO-GI grappling; tag team matches; sport MMA and sport full contact and ISKA full contact kickboxing (for adults only).

Under Johann Smit, the team expects to once again perform well and bring back plenty of medals.

One of the club’s most successful fighters, Johann’s son Brandon, announced that he would be breaking away from his home team to start a new Paul Caves club in Newcastle, where he will be studying and working.
