Land claim hijacking drama

To try and fight for the land claim privileges, some members of the community have formed the Nkunzana Concerned Group

LIFE for the communities of Nkunzana Reserve, ward 1 of Pongola Municipality, has become a waiting game after their land claim made in 2009 was allegedly hijacked by the Nkunzana Communal Property Trust members.

The communities of Mpakama, Mkuze and Mangqubulana all cry foul about what they call the trustees’ arrogance and disrespect of their rights.

To try and fight for the land claim privileges, some members of the community have formed the Nkunzana Concerned Group (NCG), to fight for the removal of the Nkunzana trustees, who they accuse of serving their own interests.

They allege when the land claim was finalised the list had 482 beneficiaries, but after the trustees took over they cut the list down to only 52 beneficiaries, most of whom the NCG claims are not from the community.

After the trust was formed, it was hoped the needs of those who were removed from their land would be catered for, but the Nkunzana trustees have since ‘stolen everything’.
