Bay business makes a big difference

Gogo Shabalala was emotional when accepting the donation

RICHARDS Bay business Aluref have ensured that children at Bonisanani Orphanage in eNseleni will not have to endure another uncomfortable night’s rest by donating 10 new beds to the children’s home.

Aluref Director Jackson Jughdis and his staff visited the orphanage last Thursday to deliver the brand new beds as well as additional sets of table and chair benches which the children can use for their homework and dining.

The orphanage’s plight was raised earlier this year when the women’s ministry of Open Door Assembly Church in Aquadene adopted them as an outreach project and began fund-raising and rallying support to help the 17 youngsters and owner Gogo Shabalala.

Jughdis said his business has been involved with the ‘bed for a child’ project for several years and he was happy to assist with the request for the children’s beds.

‘We have donated beds to many children’s homes and families in Mzingazi, Mandlanzini, eSikhawini and surrounding areas.

‘With the assistance and cooperation of South32 Hillside Aluminium, we remove from site the timber previously used as packaging material and discarded as waste.

‘This wood is then recycled to produce wooden beds and tables and chairs which are donated to needy families and children.

‘Currently we have a partnership with two local businesses, Zifeza Kitchens and Halala Marketing, who collect the timber for their own use and also manufacture these beds and tables and chairs which we donate to those in need.

‘During our visit to the home, we were deeply touched by the lengths Gogo Shabalala has gone in terms of caring for these children and we were so proud to hear that two of her children are currently studying at university,’ said Jughdis.

Gogo Shabalala was emotional when accepting the donation and could not hold back her tears of joy.

‘The children will be so happy when they return from school to find these new beds. Now we will be able to finally put all the doors back onto the frames.

‘We are so deeply appreciative to this company for their support and this will help our children to have a good night’s rest and perform at their best in school.’
