Water interruptions still affect Mzingazi community

The district is looking into other means of supplementing the water supply

THE Mzingazi community, which constitutes uMfolozi Municipality’s wards 5, 6, 14 and 16, has been without stable water supply for a number of days owing to low dam levels because of the ongoing drought.

In a statement issued by the King Cetshwayo District Municipality on Wednesday, district municipal manager Mandla Nkosi said the district supplies uMfolozi Municipality through the Upper Nseleni water scheme, which is in turn supplied by the City of uMhlathuze.

Nkosi said as the drought worsens, the city reduced its water allocation and the pumping hours at the water scheme because the levels at its own water sources have dropped.

‘The municipality is currently supplying the affected areas with water tankers as a temporary measure, but we are aware this is not an ideal situation.

‘We regret the inconvenience to the community as we battle to overcome the drought.

‘It is a known fact the entire district is facing the dire effects of the drought, therefore there are water restrictions in every municipality,’ Nkosi added.

He said the district is looking into other means of supplementing the water supply and will keep the community informed of progress.
