Police arrest outstanding suspect in Bay taxi owner murder

RICHARDS Bay police on Thursday apprehended the fifth suspect relating to the murder of Arboretum meter taxi owner Sibongiseni Mbonwa.

The accused, who has been on the run for several weeks, has been charged with murder and will appear in the Richards Bay Magistrate’s Court today (Monday).

His four co-accused, Siyabonga Nxumalo (21), Ndodo Mnguni (28),Thabani Bukhosini (24) and Fanizani Mdletshe (25), appeared in court last week where their bail applications were unsuccessful and they were remanded in custody until 30 September.

Mbonwa was reported as a missing person on 16 July. Two weeks later his body was recovered in the Hluhluwe area.

It is believed the accused hired him for his services and later kidnapped, robbed and murdered him.

The case will be transferred to the High Court.
