Daredevil Kayleigh

Swimming is the sporting code where this young talented all-rounder has accumulated most of her accolades

DAREDEVIL adventurer Kayleigh Naude is the SuperSport Let’s Play winner for August.

The Grade 5 Veldenvlei Primary School pupil continuously pushes the boundaries to achieve.

When not in the classroom earning A’s, she’s outdoors climbing trees, skateboarding, bike riding and training hard towards her sport goals.

‘I am not your typical girl. I love playing sport such as rugby, cricket and soccer, so it is difficult to find teams that accommodate my interests.’

Kayleigh won the Junior Victrix Ludorum award for athletics at her school in 2015 and 2016, and went on to make the KZN athletics team last year and the Northern Coastal team in 2015/16.

She currently holds the U10 and U11 girls high jump records at her school and focuses on 70m hurdles, long jump and high jump when competing for Northern Coastals and KZN.

Kayleigh plays right wing for the U11A girls hockey side and represents Arboretum Primary Schools U10A soccer side (owing to her school not having a girls soccer team).

But swimming is the sporting code where this young talented all-rounder has accumulated most of her accolades.

She was named Junior Victrix Ludorum at her school in 2015/16, represented the uThungulu and uMhlathuze teams last year and competed at the SALGA Games in 2015.

‘I love swimming all the strokes and compete in the 50m and 100m events for butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle and the 200m individual medley under coach Sonja van Ryswyk.’

She trains five times a week for one to one-and-a-half hours per session, focusing on fitness, speed, endurance and muscle development. Her motto is: ‘One life, dream it.’

‘I aim to become a professional sportswoman one day who will go on to represent South Africa at the Olympic Games. But I am also going to study engineering or mechanics as a back-up.’
