Cane Rats win Bully Drew memorial

Patch was the only batsman to be left standing, unbeaten at the crease on 30

THE Cane Rats posted a 40-run victory over the Bully Drew XI in Saturday’s Bully Drew Memorial cricket match at Addison Park.

The annual event serves as a memorial of all deceased members, players and spectators.

The day’s proceedings started off with a plague unveiling of grounds founder Dave Addison.

His son Patch Addison shared some life stories about his dad and the history of Addison Park.

This was followed by Bugs Sudgon, Piet Young, Gary Debufanos, Kelvin McIlrath, Pieter Wise and Rodger Lavoipierre officially opening the pitch for play by bowling and batting for three overs from each end.

Cane Rats batted first and scored 150 runs, thanks to Peter Johnson, Peter Harvey and Macko Addison all knocking 30 before retiring.

The Bully Drew squad found the chase demanding and were dismissed for 110.

Patch was the only batsman to be left standing, unbeaten at the crease on 30.

After the match, prizes were handed out to top performing players.

Patch bagged the batting award, Andrew Lund the bowling award, with youngster Connor Lendrum scooping the fielding award.
