UPDATE: Wave of support for gogo

Pensioner Mngomezulu was left with only the clothes on her back after the fire incident

ONE of Gobandlovu’s oldest citizen, Saraphina Mngomezulu, whose house was gutted by fire last week, has been overwhelmed by the help she has received from her community and local companies.

Pensioner Mngomezulu (87) was left with only the clothes she was wearing after the fire incident.

Her granddaughter, Nonhlanhla Mzolo told the Zululand Observer how elated her gogo was when she received clothing material, two beds, curtains and blankets from good Samaritans.

‘What pleased us most was the commitment from one of the Felixton companies that pledged to rebuild our house.

They were touched by the story which appeared in the Zululand Observer and offered to assist.

‘We are excited as a family. They have promised to visit us sometime this week to do an inspection of the damage and assess what will be required to rebuild the house,’ said Mzolo.

‘As if that was not good enough, we have received notification from the Department of Home Affairs to come and collect our new ID books after the old ones were destroyed in the fire.
