De Beer still shines like a diamond

De Beer's winning form continues

EMPANGENI cage fighter Martin ‘The Diamond’ de Beer picked up his fifth professional career win by beating Jasen ‘Money’ van der Merwe in a bantamweight fight on Friday evening at Carnival City in Johannesburg.

The 25-year-old Zululander pinned Van der Merwe in a triangle choke early in the second round to claim victory.

Before that De Beer manoeuvred around and created spaces to land decent punches to the head of his opponent.

The second round started with De Beer landing a solid kick to Van der Merwe’s head, followed by a punch before both fighters landed up on the floor.

But De Beer completed great ground work and got Van der Merwe into the triangle choke just 75 seconds into the second round.

The Garage Boys fighter’s contract with the EFC ended, but he signed a new one for six more fights.

De Beer’s next fight is in November or December.

‘I want to thank my dad for training me and my new sponsors Power Pave, Straight JKT and Iron & Ink for getting getting behind me,’ said De Beer.
