All systems go for Hippo challenge

An encouraging sign was that 312 riders completed the 25km and 119 the 50km events last year

LAST year’s Monzi Hippo mountain bike race, the fourth leg of the Bell Big 5 MTB Series, saw over 470 riders finish and organisers are hoping to better turnout this year.

An encouraging sign was that 312 riders completed the 25km and 119 the 50km events last year.

After almost a month’s break, the Big 5 is back, and is scheduled for Sunday, 4 September and if the riders can handle the sand, the Hippo is an enjoyable ride out in the countryside.

Being a comparatively fast track, the Monzi Hippo Challenge provides the perfect opportunity for riders chasing a position in the Bell Big 5 Series.

Leave this one out and riders may be saddened to see their rivals leaping ahead with improved overall average times.

Registration is between 6am and 8am on the Sunday and the action starts at 8.30am, 9am and 9.30am for the 50km, 25km and 10km routes respectively.

The venue is the Monzi Club and the GPS start co-ordinates are S28 25.900 E32 17.924.
