New taxi sector minimum wages set

Minimum wages for the taxi industry have increased

AS from Monday, the Department of Labour has increased the minimum wages for the taxi industry by an average of 6.2%.

The hike in the new minimum wages for taxi drivers is from R3 030.67 to R3 218.57 per month, from R697.13 to R742.80 per week and hourly from R14.51 to R15.47.

Administration workers will also earn more, from R3 020.67 to R3 218.57 per month, weekly from R697.13 to R742.80, and hourly from R14.51 to R15.47.

Rank marshals’ wages will rise monthly from R2 414.63 to R2 564.33, weekly from R557.26 to R591.81 and hourly from R11.60 to R12.32.

The new boarding allowance (where an employer require an employee to sleep over at a place other than where the employee resides) will increase from R329.29 to R349.70.
