Mtubatuba to receive a facelift

The upgrade is part of the efforts to ensure the town continues to be seen as a viable investment destination by the business community.

MTUBATUBA has been given a new lease of life when the KZN MEC for Cooperative and Traditional Affairs (Cogta), Nomusa Dube-Ncube, on Sunday introduced the contractor tasked with the work of revamping the town to the tune of R20-million.

Mtubatuba has been in the news when rife political infighting continuously stifled service delivery, compelling Cogta to take firm action against the councillors, in the interest of the community.

This town is popular among tourists as it is situated close to the Isimangaliso Wetland Park, a world renowned heritage site.

The upgrade is part of the efforts to ensure the town continues to be seen as a viable investment destination by the business community.

The department has invested R400-million into the rehabilitation of small towns across the province, and Mtubatuba is one of many reaping the benefits.

Community gym opened
Opening a community gym, situated in the suburb of Northdale, Dube-Ncube said, ‘The gym we are unveiling today is a sign of our commitment to ensuring our community members remain healthy.

‘The gym also has a jungle gym, to be used by the children for enjoyment in a safe environment.

‘We also encourage the elderly, even those suffering from arthritis and high blood pressure, to utilise this gym to keep fit,’ Dube-Ncube added.

One of the government programmes, which has yielded fruit within this town, is the community works programme, which employs 1 000 people from within the municipality, and an additional 1 000 through the expanded public works programme.

The Mtubatuba turnoff cross-roads on the N2, as well as the carriageway heading north, is currently being extended, to make it safer and easier for motorists to access the town with ease.
