Bay star lives his acting dream

uSingil made his first television appearance earlier this year when he became an extra in the Mzansi Magic televovela, The Road.

PERFORMING his way to the top is local musician Sphamandla Ngema (29), aka uSingil.

When he packed his bags and moved to Johannesburg early last year in pursuit of his dream of becoming a well known actor, many thought it was impossible.

But this Richards Bay resident had a desire and a plan to make it big, and did not allow any obstacles to stand on his way.

He recently made history and became the first Zululander to feature on two major South African soapies, Generations – The Legacy on SABC 1 and The Road on the DSTV channel.

‘It was difficult. Jo’Burg is huge and filled with many talented young people. I didn’t have any acting experience, so the first thing I had to do was to attend acting classes if I hoped to stand a chance of making my dream a reality. I had a plan to succeed no matter what life throws at me,’ he said.

He made his first television appearance earlier this year when he became an extra in the Mzansi Magic televovela, The Road.

Soon after he was called to audition for a part in the popular soapie Generations – The Legacy.

When an opportunity presented itself he left his heart on stage during the auditions.

He outshone hundreds of other hopeful aspiring actors and impressed the producers – and it was lights, camera and action.

‘It is one of the best things I have done in my life, and I am humbled to have been selected for the part. It has opened doors for me.’

As if that was not enough, this emerging actor is now involved in two South African movies.

He is currently working with well known actor, writer and producer Kenneth Nkosi in the Ster Kinekor film titled, Wrong Number.

‘Things just keep getting better and I am also working hard to ensure I polish my acting every day. I am currently doing workshops with director Duma kaNdlovu at the Johannesburg Theatre, just making sure my craft is on point.’

‘I feel blessed and the love I receive from people back home is overwhelming. All I want to do now is to stay grounded and fly that Zululand flag higher,’ said uSingil.
