A GRUESOME wreckage was left in the wake of a head-on collision between a truck and car on R34 on Monday morning.
The driver of the car succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead on scene.
uMhlathuze Fire and Rescue personnel worked tirelessly to extricate the man’s body from the wreckage.
It is believed the car was travelling away from Empangeni towards eShowe/Melmoth on the R34 when it veered into the oncoming lane, colliding with the truck.
The driver of the truck escaped serious injury.
The cause of the accident is unclear, and will undergo police investigation.
