Dog seller caught on the highway

Demanding a price of at least R150, the man said he had been given the dog by a resident in Brackenham.

SPCA officials rushed to the scene on Monday morning after hearing a man was selling a German Shepherd from the roadside near the Alton robots on the John Ross Parkway.

Demanding a price of at least R150, the man said he had been given the dog by a resident in Brackenham.
When pressed for more details, he became aggressive and was unable to confirm details of ownership.

‘The animal, aged about eight years, was docile and appeared in reasonably good condition,’ said SPCA official Shelley Prinsloo.

‘The man was very upset and at one stage grabbed me when we wanted to confiscate the dog.’
Fortunately Shelley had good support in the form of colleague Wynand Strauss and city traffic official Freddie Horn.

The German Shepherd was duly taken to the SPCA in Meerensee.
The incident may be linked to a recent spate of dog thefts in the city.

‘We would appreciate it if the rightful owner made contact with us,’ said Shelley.
The SPCA number is 035 7532086.
