Sick note fraud leads to arrests

The doctor has also opened up a case of fraud and is a complainant in this matter.

A LOCAL business’ investigation into their high absentee rate in the workplace has led to the arrest of three employees of a medical practitioner and five of their staff members who were implicated in the issuing and purchasing of fraudulent sick notes.

 
According to police, the company based in Richards Bay discovered inconsistencies with regard to falsified sick notes produced by their employees, all issued from a medical centre in Empangeni.

 
On further investigation by the Richards Bay SAPS, police arrested three of the staff of the medical centre as well as the five employees who had produced the alleged fraudulent notes.

 
The doctor has also opened up a case of fraud and is a complainant in this matter.

 
Meanwhile the eight accused appeared in the Richards Bay Magistrates Court on Tuesday, they were granted bail and the matter was postponed to the 23 June.
