Cops make big dagga bust

Big dagga haul in Emabuyeni

A MOZAMBICAN woman was arrested on Monday after she was found in possession of dagga with a street value of over R30 000 at Emabuyeni.

Elisinha Eduardo Mbfuno (20) was charged with possession of and dealing in dangerous and dependence producing substances, after 179 small slops of dagga and a 50kg bag of cannabis were confiscated by police.

The intelligence driven sting was a joint operation between uThungulu District Crime Intelligence and the Empangeni K9 Unit.

Mbfuno appeared in the Esikhaleni Magistrate court on Tuesday and the case has been remanded for further investigation.

Members of the public applaud the police for intercepting the consignment.

Community worker and spiritual counselor, Trudy Pitout, last year during an interview with the Zululand Observer, said police should also target runners and users to tackle the mammoth problem of drug addiction locally.

Pitout said while police are concentrating on hauling in the big fish, the small fry move around freely and expand their markets, targeting children at recreational spots such as Alkantstrand.

The Community Policing Forums and local security companies are conducting regular greenbelt raids and street patrols, during which a number of suspects have recently been rounded up for possession of cannabis.
