Police gate-crash perp’s party

The suspect was found in possession of R3 900 in cash and 12 cellphones suspected to have been stolen during the Pep Store crime.

WHILE boozing it up with girls at a party to celebrate success after committing armed robbery, one suspect never saw police coming until he was in handcuffs.

Members of the SAPS Sea Borderline Control Task Team on Tuesday night descended on Bayside Lodge in the Empangeni CBD after receiving information about the suspect’s whereabouts.

The 21-year-old is believed to be one of three men who calmly strolled into Pep Stores in Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Centre in Richards Bay on Sunday afternoon.

Police say staff were conducting cash-ups and while attending to the last two customers for the day, the suspects entered the store.

Two were armed with guns while the third held a knife.

Three staff members and both customers were then locked inside the store and the suspects fled with cellphones and around R30 000 in cash.

Police say the suspect is linked to a number of crimes committed in the eNseleni area, including rape and robbery.
