The aim of the event was to promote fishing as a sport, as well as raise funds for school projects.

THE second annual Hluhluwe Privaat Skool Inter-Schools fishing competition saw 150 anglers arrive at the Richards Bay Ski Boat Club.

The aim of the event was to promote fishing as a sport, as well as raise funds for school projects.

‘I would really like to thank all sponsors for getting on board with us for this family fun event. I would like to say a special thank you to the Richards Bay Ski Boat Club for their support and for making this event possible,’ said school principal Antoinette van Staden.

Anglers competed in boat and shore categories, with a number of fish being successfully weighed and released.

Results

Boat winner – Richard McCall (grade 7 at Hluhluwe Privaat) in category 2.

Shore – 1 Kuvay Lee Dorsamy (grade 2 Veldenvlei), 2 Xavier Jacobs (grade 5 Richards Bay Primary) and 3 Evert Viljoen (grade 9 Richards Bay High).

Boatman – Fransua Botes (Arboretum).

Shoreman – Praveen Singh (Richards Bay Primary).

Most entries (winning school) – Richards Bay Primary.

Biggest fish – Fransua Botes (Arboretum).
