Schools appeal for water aid

Plea to assist drought affected schools

AFTER visiting two schools in the area and noting their battle in the current drought, Ward 1 Councillor Frik Bosman has made an impassioned plea for help.

‘The water crises in uMhlathuze has reached a point where continuous water supply to all areas is not always possible.

‘Schools are specifically vulnerable and adequate provision should be made for emergency storage in this regard.

‘Sphumelele Secondary School urgently requires Jo-Jo tanks as there are none.

‘The buildings are fitted with gutters, so only tanks are required to harvest rain water.

‘This will also make it possible for storage of potable water from the municipality for emergency purposes,’ Bosman said on Friday.

‘At Sitholinhlanhla Primary School, the buildings are fitted with Jo-Jo tanks but they are not operational because of broken inlet gutters and broken outlet taps.

‘Repairs need to be carried out urgently to provide for the harvesting of rain water and storage of potable water for emergencies.

‘Any assistance that can be rendered in this regard would be highly appreciated.

‘Access to water is a right, not a privilege. We need to work together to uplift our children.’

Cllr Bosman asks anyone who can assist to contact the following school principals:

Sphumelele Secondary – Ms Mhkhize on 083 4509573; Sitholinhlanhla Primary – Ms Mhlaba on 072 3079178.
