A powerful and honest theatre show

Faces, a Unizulu well received threatre play

ACTRESS Nothando Mabaso raised the bar when she portrayed different roles on a one-one-woman theatre play titled Faces, at the University of Zululand Department of Creative Arts in KwaDlangezwa over the weekend.

Written and directed by Unizulu arts lecture Gift Marovatsanga, the play told a story of a woman with emotional scars.

She shared her personal experiences and exposed the complicated nature of people around her.

Her personal narrative intertwines with the experiences of many others who often put in appearances and change their faces.

The play allowed the audience to witness a world class performance, but also offered a space to identify and reflect on their own invisible scars.

Mabaso sparkled in a white hospital gown, ensuring attention was centered only upon her performance and the vivid world created through her descriptions.

The pace was appropriate for the piece which ensured that the moments of drama and tension were starkly obvious and powerful.

An intelligently adapted and beautifully performed play filled with an action packed performance.
