Help for murdered men’s families

uThungulu Mayor visits KwaMashu hostel murder victims' families

THE families of the four men murdered at a KwaMashu hostel on Sunday told uThungulu Mayor Thembeka Mchunu they don’t have money to bury their loved ones.

The four men from the uThungulu district worked or were looking for work in Durban.

Mchunu paid her respects to the bereaved families in Ntuthunga 2, ward 13 of the uMfolozi Municipality on Tuesday.

Mchunu promised the families that the remains of slain Zamokuhle Mhlongo (35), Mzikhona Mhlongo (23), Lindani Ntshangase (23) and Khanyisani Shandu (25) would be transported from Durban to Empangeni at the eThekwini Metro’s expense, while the mortuary and burial costs will be borne by the uThungulu District and uMfolozi Municipality.

According to the victims’ family members, allegations are that the friction was caused by a misunderstanding over a hostel bed rented by one of the victims.

Apparently one of them had told the owner of the bed he had found a new bed to rent at another place. The owner allegedly said the matter would be discuss on Sunday afternoon, at which time 11 men arrived with guns, ordered the four men to lay down and shot them execution style.

SAPS spokesperson Major Shoos Magudulela said the suspects are still at large.
