Richards Bay robbery suspects found guilty

Accused Junior Robinson, Eugene Dunn and Darryl Strydom found guilty of robbery with aggravating circumstances

THREE Aquadene residents charged with robbery with aggravating circumstances in 2014, were found guilty on Tuesday in the Richards Bay Magistrate’s Court.

The accused, Junior Robinson, Eugene Dunn and Darryl Strydom have remained in custody since their arrest after robbing a taxi driver of his vehicle and later rolling the car following a high-speed police chase.

The men allegedly hired the taxi to pick up a girlfriend near the Bay Hall pool, but later, armed with a gun and a knife, overpowered him and tried to force him into the boot of his car.

The complainant managed to escape and started running into the water, phoning a family member who is also a police officer.

They robbers fled with his vehicle but were later involved in a collision and arrested.

The court found the accused to be acting in common purpose when they lured the complainant to a dark area to rob him of his vehicle.
