Richards Bay water has a sting in it

CITY of uMhlathuze officials are testing the waters.

This after numerous complaints of stinging skin by bathers using the Pelican Island area.

‘My child ran out the water crying and we had to treat burn-like painful areas,’ said one mother who often frequents the Bay’s unspoiled recreational beach.

‘Chatting with other parents and people who also paddle ski or surf, this has been a common complaint for some time.

‘The problem occurs around the Yacht Club, Bay Hall, Pelican Island and the Richards Bay Skiboat Club.’

City Director: Parks, Sport and Recreation, Erns van Biljon, has issued instruction for water sampling to be conducted in these areas.
