Promoting Zululand tourism

Over 60 things to experience on Route 66

THE Route 66 committee held an open meeting at KwaBulawayo on Friday to which the public and stakeholders in the tourism industry were invited.

Reports from the municipalities along the route were tabled.

There were no representatives from the northern towns.

A discussion on the route’s website (www.zululandroute66.co.za) resolved that Duncan Pritchard would continue to develop the website, but municipalities and other stakeholders had to take ownership and provide up-to-date information for inclusion on the website.

These include pre-publicity and follow-up content (photographs and text) after events.

Accommodation establishments which have free coverage on the website, were also invited to submit any specials for inclusion.

The situation will be reviewed after three months.

The Zululand Heritage Route 66 winds its way from Pongola in the north to Amatikulu in the south and passes through Nongoma, Ulundi, Melmoth, eShowe, Nkandla and Gingindlovu.

With over 60 sites listed on the map, it is a drive well worth taken.

Most of the heritage sites are in the southern sector around eShowe, Melmoth and Ulundi.
