Singleton-murder verdict in Mtunzini High Court

Relatives await verdict in the Kerridge Singleton murder trial

JUDGEMENT in the trial of two men accused of murdering Richards Bay resident Kerridge Charles Singleton, commenced in the Mtunzini High Court on Monday.

Sikhumbuzo Thulani Zondo (26) and Senzo Sipho Sithole Zondi (31) were indicted for the murder and armed robbery of Singleton in September 2014.

Judge Sharmane Balton was still handing down the lengthy judgement at the time of going to print.

The State, according to State Advocate Naveen Sewpersat, alleged that the accused also robbed Singleton of his Toyota Tazz.

The 64 year-old Singleton’s body was found by security guards in the bushes near the Meerensee bus rank, a few hundred metres from two bustling shopping centres.

He was lying face down with his arms tied behind his back and his legs bound and had suffered severe trauma to the head.

A missing person search was conducted after Singleton failed to return to his Empangeni home.

His white Toyota Tazz was also involved in an accident at Melmoth shortly after he was reported missing and two men were reportedly seen fleeing the scene.

Zondo is defended by Advocate TR Mthembu and Zondi is defended by Mr T Mbili.

Meanwhile, relatives of Singleton are anxiously awaiting the verdict and say they are looking forward to having closure.
