Dickson Oval produces low scoring game

Felixton College claim 115 run victory over Empangeni High School at home

FELIXTON College’s first XI cricket team hosted Empangeni High School at the Dickson Oval in Felixton on Saturday, in a low scoring affair, which saw the home side come out victors after the dust had settled.

Felixton captain Sheldon Getkate won the toss and elected to bat first.

‘I chose to bat first as our team feels more confident setting totals and knowing what needs to be defended. The pitch is not playing in our favour as the ball keeps low, with the odd one popping up. The pitch is slow and we rely on our top five batsman to get the job done,’ said Getkate.

Unfortunately for the home side, not all went according to plan with the top order failing.

But thanks to middle order batsman Michael Dalais (36) and Nzuzo Nzuza (43 not out), Felixton posted 188/7 in their 35 overs at the crease.

EHS headboy, Dirk Kotze was the pick of the bowling attack with figures of 2/15 in 4.

The visiting team failed to put the ball away and therefore were dismissed for a dismal total of 73 in the 25th over, handing Felixton a comfortable 115 run victory.

Nzuza 4/9 in 3 and Dalais 3/15 in 6 were the pick of the home side’s bowlers.

‘I am very pleased with my performance today and am glad that I contributed for the team. The 43 not out is my highest score for the team. It was not easy out there and one had to work hard for your runs. Taking four wickets is a great feeling and one memory that I certainly won’t forget soon,’ said Nzuza.

Empangeni High will take on Richards Bay High School on Saturday in the Bay in their next fixture.
