The suspect has alleged that he was shot while fleeing police

KWAMBONAMBI Detectives have arrested the second suspect in the murders of David (76) and Ann (73) Strauss.

SAPS spokesperson Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose confirmed the arrest on this morning (Friday).

‘The 21-year-old suspect was arrested in Newlands East in Durban late yesterday (Thursday) afternoon,’ he said.

‘KwaMbonambi detectives received information on his whereabouts and travelled to Durban.’

The suspect was admitted to hospital shortly after, as he had sustained a gunshot wound to his arm.

‘He has alleged that he was wounded while fleeing from police,’ said Capt Mdlalose.

‘Our records indicate that no shots were fired at the time he evaded police on Monday.’

The suspect, who remains under police guard, will appear in the KwaMbonambi Magistrate’s Court as soon as he is declared medically fit.

The Strauss couple were brutally murdered during a robbery at their home on Sunday afternoon.
