TRAVEL ALERT: N2, R102 closed around Groutville

Some motorists are still trapped in the area as the protest, believed to be violent, rages on.

THE N2 and the R102 at Groutville (Mvoti Toll Plaza) has been closed since this morning as violent service delivery protests forced police to divert traffic.

Some motorists are still trapped in the area as the protest, believed to be violent, rages on.

It is believed police are stopping cars from entering the roads near Verulam and Stanger.

Sister publication North Coast Courier journalist Jacqueline Herbst has been Tweeting from the scene, and the latest information indicates she and a colleague are still trapped in the area with no way out.

Early reports suggest the protest was sparked by a long delay in the building of RDP housing.

Motorists travelling to Durban are urged to take note and avoid travelling on the N2 until the road has been cleared.

The R102 has been reopened, however, traffic remains congested.
