UPDATE: Frara case postponed until January

Fort Napier Psychiatric Hospital specialists to share Frara assessment reports in court next year.

TWO years on, the case of a man accused of murdering his wife, prominent dance teacher Carolyn Lathwood Frara in their Empangeni home, continues.

John Edward ‘Johnnie’ Frara appeared in the Empangeni Magistrate’s Court last week, where the case was once again postponed to 21 January owing to Frara’s attorney Johan van der Westhuizen being unwell.

In April a local doctor recommended that Frara seek medical attention from a specialised physician.

He subsequently underwent a 30-day observation at Fort Napier Psychiatric Hospital in Pietermaritzburg.

According to court documents, Senior Specialist Dr John Dunn and Sr Silindile Portia Mkhize found that Frara is not mentally unstable and the health practitioners will present their reports in court in January..

It is alleged the couple were involved in an argument in the kitchen after Carolyn returned home from a dance practice.

She was attacked and suffered multiple stab wounds to her head and body.

Frara’s bail was not opposed.
