THE name of the police officer who was gunned down this morning in Gingindlovu has been released.
Warrant Officer Jeriko Mdletshe (52) was shot in the neck on the R102 near Shoprite.
His partner, Constable Senzo Ndwandwe (37) was shot five times and rushed to hosptial in Ballito. He is in a critical condition.
Both officers were stationed at the Gingindlovu Police Station.
Ndwandwe and Mdletshe were conducting routine stop and search operations at about 9am when they responded to a report of suspicious men parked next to the R102, not far from the shopping centre.
