Threats of high winds close Alkantstrand for weekend

Shark nets have been removed to protect the equipment as warnings of high winds is issued

ALKANTSTRAND in Richards Bay is among many north coast beaches that will be closed over the weekend due to high winds and seas predicted by the South African Weather Service.

Beach Manager Shakes Hiraman confirmed that the shark nets have been removed to protect the equipment from damaging waves.

‘Alkantstrand will be closed on Saturday and Sunday, while Newark beach will be open,’ he said.

Blythedale, Thompsons Bay, Willards beach, Westbrook,  Umdloti, Umhlanga, Bronze beach as well as Durban beaches north of Casino Beach and Brighton Beach will also be closed.
