Stolen vehicle recovered in Meerensee

NRPS recovers suspected stolen vehicle in Meerensee.

TWO suspected car thieves were caught stripping a stolen vehicle in Meerensee in broad daylight on Wednesday, but while one managed to flee on foot, the other was apprehended by Northern Region Protection Services (NRPS).

Corrie Pretorius says the men were spotted by the NRPS patrol vehicle in Loodvislyn, in the process of stripping the white Opel Astra of its radio, battery and wheels.

The loot was carried into the greenbelt.

‘We suspect the Astra was hot-wired elsewhere and thereafter either broke down or ran out of petrol.

‘They then obviously decided to take whatever they could.

‘We have recovered everything- we only need to trace the owner.’

‘The vehicle registration number is NRB 58995.’

At the time of going to print, a NRPS patrol was combing the area for the second suspect and waiting for police to arrive to take over the suspect and crime scene.
