Police pray for divine intervention against crime

Police held a prayer session against the increasing crime wave in eSikhaleni.

WITH police killings reported almost daily and the shocking increase of violence against women and children, the Empangeni SAPS Cluster held a special prayer session at Hlanganani Community Hall in eSikhaleni.

Members of the force, church leaders and the community implored God to intervene and end the crime wave sweeping the region.

‘eSikhaleni has a long history of violence, including the murder of Warrant Officer Ngwane inside police cells a months ago. The area is fraught with rape, murder, robbery and house break-in incidents,’ said uMhlathuze Municipality Deputy Mayor, Cllr Vera Gumbi in her address.

‘We can’t handle this by ourselves, we need to invite the higher power to intervene and fight crime,’ she said.

Empangeni police spokesperson, Capt Mbongeni Mdlalose, pleaded with community members to join forces and work with the police to end the crime spree.

‘We call on all South Africans to reject violence and take a stand against the killing of police officers. These murders are an attack on our nation, and we must work together to stop it,’ said Mdlalose.

‘Criminal activities need to be reported and communities need to trust the law. This is not a fight for the police, but we are all responsible to ensuring a safe environment,’ he said.

The prayer session was supported by the uMhlathuze Municipality, community leaders and various religious organizations.
