Game boost for Enseleni reserve

Enseleni Nature Reserve has some new inhabitants.

FOR the first time this year, the Enseleni Nature Reserve has received some very welcome new residents.

Six impala and five Blue Wildebeest were brought in from the Mkhuze Game Reserve and released last Thursday.

According to Phumla Zulu, field ranger for Enseleni, the new additions are very welcome.

‘We lost three of our wildebeest last year after they were struck by lightning,’ said Zulu.

Zulu emphasised the importance of having game on a nature reserve, as it encourages visitors.

The Enseleni reserve contains some of the last remaining Maputo Forest, and is a haven for bird watching.

The new game joins the existing residents, namely zebra, impala, reedbuck, waterbuck, bushbuck, bushpig, Red, Blue and Grey Duiker, hippopotamus, crocodile, Large-Spotted Genet and the shy bush baby.
