A GRADE six pupil was caught in the crossfire when gunmen broke into the premises of Luvisi Primary School in Nquthu near Nkandla and shot dead council Speaker, Vusi Ntombela earlier today.
A gang shot and killed Councillor Ntombela, in full view of pupils while teaching in class.
Pandemonium broke-out as traumatised children scurried for cover as the gunmen opened fire on the Speaker of the Nquthu council.
Elizabeth Nhleko (12) was shot in the chest and died in hospital while Bongumusa Cele (12) is seriously injured and is receiving treatment at a local hospital.
A top government delegation including Members of Parliament is currently visiting the Nquthu community.
‘This must indeed be petrifying for any parent who sends their innocent children to school in the hope that they will become better people in the future, only to be killed in the environment where they should be acquiring knowledge instead of their lives being put at risk,’ said MEC, Nomusa Dube-Ncube.
