Community demands ‘no bail’ for Nhlabane murder suspects

Mbo Welcome Menyuka (25) beaten body was found buried at Nhlabane beach last month.

PANDEMONIUM ruled at the Empangeni District Magistrate’s Court when two murder suspects from eNhlabane appeared briefly for a bail application.

Bongani Mbuyazi (41) and Nhlanhla Mbuyazi (35) are among seven suspects charged with murder and kidnapping.

They were allegedly involved in the killing of Mbo Welcome Menyuka (25), whose beaten body was found buried at Nhlabane beach last month.

Menyuka had been reported missing since being abduction in front witnesses on 2 October.

According to the police, the main accused, tuck shop and shebeen owner Bongani Mbuyazi, might also be linked to other murders.

Angry community members chanted and sang outside the court, imploring the court not to grant bail.

‘We don’t want them to come out. Our families will be in danger if the get bail. We want to see the law take its course and punish them for what they have done,’ said one resident.

According to the police, the other five suspects refused to apply for bail because they feared for their lives.

All seven suspects will remain in custody until at least Friday.
