City power cuts schedule

Power will be out over the next two weeks due to maintenance work and new installations at mini substations in Richards Bay, Empangeni and Ngwelezane.

THE uMhlathuze Municipality will call ‘lights out’ five times over the next two weeks for maintenance work and new installations at mini substations in Richards Bay, Empangeni and Ngwelezane.

According to the City’s Infrastructure and Technical Services Department, power outages are scheduled to start at 8am and end at 4pm.

However, if electricity supply has not been cut by 9am on the designated dates, interruption will not take place.

Tomorrow (Tuesday) Arboretum Extention and John Ross College will be affected, while Ngwelezane will experience a disruption on Wednesday.

On Thursday Meerensee’s Krewelkring, Musselcracker, Nondi Leap and Dune Route areas will be cut off.

A week later, on 19 November, Empangeni’s Jameson, Cunningham, Gemini and Sigma street areas will experience a power outage, followed by Meerensee’s Oesterbank, Pompano Place, Knorhaanbaai, Moorish Idol and Kabeljoukade 2 on 20 November.

This is ongoing scheduled maintenance on mini substations feeding certain streets in the uMhlathuze region.

The department also urges the public to treat electrical points as live on the above mentioned dates.

‘Any customers who experience power failures after hours that the supply was re-energised, must please contact the Municipal Centre on 080 0222827,’ the department said.
