Update: Arboretum victim fighting for his life

Richards Bay shooting victim identified.

THE 27-year-old Arboretum man (not 17 like originally reported) is in a critical condition in Netcare The Bay Hospital.

Phillip van der Westhuizen who works at the Thuthukani Adult Workshop suffered multiple gunshot wounds when an intruder attacked him at the family home in Arboretum on Tuesday morning.

Van der Westhuizen was about to leave for work at the time of the shooting.

Spokesman from Thuthukani Special School said staff and friends were praying for his recovery.

A photo of the suspected shooter is circulating on social media, however police have not yet confirmed if this is indeed the suspect.

  1. Good luck to the family. You are in my prays. This is a very sad time. I have seen him nearly every morning waiting for his bus. Always friendly. God is with him for he is God’s child and God will take good care of him.

    What is our government doing about this. The promise they made was to reduce crime.
