Top Zululand diver drowns

Two divers drowned in a diving accident on the KZN South Coast today.

THE diving fraternity of Zululand was dealt a shocking blow today when a well-known Sodwana diving instructor drowned in a diving accident at Umkomaas Beach on the KZN South Coast.

Peter Timm, the owner and skipper of Triton Dive Charters based in Sodwana as well as another female diver, also believed to be a Zululander, were found dead on arrival by paramedics at around 11.45am.

‘Despite all efforts to resuscitate both patients, there was nothing else paramedics could do for them,’ said Netcare 911 spokeswoman Santi Steinmann.

‘The victims were a man and woman, believed to be in their 50s. Exact detail to the cause of the incident and preceding events are unknown at this stage and will remain the subject of an investigation,’ Steinmann said.
